I jumped on the bandwagon.
Again.
Again.
I went into the book store over the weekend and purchased the first book to see what all the fuss was about.
I've been reading online and on several other blogs about how raunchy this book is. People were going on and on about how ridiculous the sex is in the book and how they felt "sooo uncomfortable" reading it.
Blah, blah blah.
So naturally, this had me intrigued. Naturally.
Old man Cashier: "Uh Miss, I don't think you are old enough to be reading this book."
*wink, wink*
Ew.
I give him my signature "you have no idea what you are talking about" look and walk away. This exchange had me even more intrigued. What the hell is this book all about!
As soon as I got home, I whipped it out and started reading. I was hooked from the first page (which rarely happens). And I was surprised at how quickly the author got right into the story. No BS. I like that.

Yes, the book has a lot of intense, raunchy sex. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT.
Like every couple of pages. Well, maybe not that extreme... (I wonder if anyone has actually counted...) But we're talking every single time I sat down to read a bit of the book, I was guaranteed at least 1-2 (if not more depending on how much of the book I read in the period of time).
Although the erotica in the book is different than any other books I've read (intense is the best word to describe it without giving anything away, I think) it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just like Alissa, I don't know why, but I was expecting worse. Maybe I'm secretly raunchy? Who knows.
I do think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I read so many others opinions on it before I even read a single word. So I kind of knew what to expect in a way.
For anybody that blushes easily at mild erotica in novels, be forewarned! And if you can get past that, the story is actually quite intriguing. I finished it last night and am going to go pick up the last two novels tonight. I am definitely hooked.
And from what I have heard from people on the other two books, the erotica continues, but it is the story that really gets interesting. This series is definitely like no other, that's for sure!
What I REALLY want to know though, is what the eff goes through the author's mind on a regular basis! She HAS to be some kind of minx (yes, I said minx) in order to come up with this kind of material.
Holy cow.

Hahaha, I've heard a lot about this series recently. I'm curious, but honestly don't think it's for me!
ReplyDeleteSecretly raunchy hahaha...
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, the emails I have from my "Mr. Grey" make me blush. That's what I was expecting from the book!
haha I cant wait to start reading this.. if only i can finish mocking jay this week I can start it next week.
ReplyDeleteeveryone has been reading it & makes me wanna read it!!
I have been hearing so much about this book and because people are talking all about it it makes me want to read it even more! As soon as I finish the Hunger games trilogy I am getting this next!
ReplyDeleteOh, and crap! I just remembered I haven't sent you a guest post yet!! Crazy week just getting away from me. Sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteHoly cow this book is crazy!! I am on Chapter 19 and I read at lunch outside at the park and I know I giggle to myself! I was just telling my coworkers about this book. If my mother were to read it or know that I read it, I would die! There is something so intriguing about it though (maybe because I'm curious if people ACTUALLY do things like that!). Can't wait to finish the book!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I was out at a golf course with friends/coworkers and we read some of the pages to our guy friends. It was HILARIOUS. I haven't read it yet (it was my friend's book) and we thought the EXACT same thing-- she HAS to know about all of that stuff out of experience, right?? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love all things Christian Grey. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI'm on chapter 12 and I'm hooked! So intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably read it to see what the hype is about. But I'm not anticipating enjoying it. I didn't really care for the Twilight books and apparently E.L. James wrote 50 Shades Of Grey after the lack of sex scenes in the Twilight Saga. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHey! I got directed to your blog from Jenni's.
ReplyDeleteI loved the fifty shades of grey books! i actually miss the characters!
I wrote a post on them as well, http://elissassanity.blogspot.com/2012/04/fifty-shades-of-grey.html

hola! im with you! im on the second book now and my friend - who is totally open about all things sexual - said it made her blush, and im kind of a prude so i was expecting a LOT more ... at first i wasn't really into it but now im hooked.
ReplyDeleteand i watched an interview with the author and she was so shy and down to earth. she said she wrote these books as her midlife crisis!! and she enver expected them to blow up the way they did!!
I LOVED THESE BOOKS! For me, it wasn't so much about the sex (although it definitely made me laugh at times with how explicit it could get!). I read the story online, a PDF and the names were still Edward and Bella. But as far as I can tell, the story is exactly the same as the books that have been published. I thought it was such a heartbreakingly sweet story. Christian clearly had some major issues and I think every woman has that desire to rescue her man from his deepest insecurities and fears... the only difference is Ana was able to do it, without necessarily meaning too. I did not want the story to end and miss the characters as well.
